The House An historic Queen Anne house in a village setting three miles from Winchester and 1 mile from Junction 11 off the M3, Twyford House offers elegance and accessibility. The house is noted for being the place where Benjamin Franklin stayed and started his autobiography. There is a summer house of the same period as the house, also noted for being the place where Benjamin Franklin wrote his autobiography while visiting the owner, Jonathon Shipley, Bishop of Llandaff and St Asaph. Family Room with en-suite shower, four-poster double bed, and extra beds on request. Single/double/twin room with en-suite shower-room, cot available on request. Single/double/twin room with en-suite bathroom, cot available on request. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, access to irons and boards, colour televisions and radio/alarms. There is off street parking and storage for bicycles. Children are welcome, we operate a no-smoking and no-pets policy. The Garden The gardens occupy over an acre with an extensive vegetable garden, shrub and herbaceous borders. There is a mulberry tree as old as the house and a formal herb garden. There is a swimming pool and trampoline which may be used (at own risk). There is easy access to the watermeadows from the house for those wishing to venture further. Village Facilities The Village Shop (open 6.00am to 8.30pm) is 5 minutes walk away and includes a Post Office, Hairdresser, Delicatessen and Restaurant (open 9.00am to 5.00pm, and for the evenings of Thursday to Saturday for the Restaurant). The Phoenix (traditional pub with skittle alley) and The Bugle (gastro-pub) serve lunches and dinners. There are plenty of other eating places within 5 miles. |
